Directs and coordinates activities of news department of radio or television network or station:
Confers with executives and production staff members regarding budget, station policy, news coverage
of special events, and production problems. Originates or approves feature ideas and sends ideas to
personnel of assignment department for implementation. Monitors news development and reviews edited
copy and news film. Approves program content or issues directions for changes or modification.
Coordinates news staff activities with radio or television programming, traffic, and film editing
departments. Hires, discharges, and evaluates performance of news staff. May operate video equipment
to review and approve news film or tape, using knowledge of usage of equipment. May write or type
news copy, letters, and memos. May perform production duties or directly supervise those performing
them in smaller station. May be designated according to media as Director, Radio News (radio-tv
broad.); Director, Television News (radio-tv broad.).
