Examines barrel for faulty stave joints, leaks, loose or defective hoops, and material defects, such as streaks, cross grains, wormholes, and knotholes, in stave and heading material. Marks defects with chalk and rolls barrel to COOPER (wood. container). May make minor repairs to barrel, such as plugging wormholes, knotholes, and small leaks.
