TITLE: Computer and Information Systems Managers

DEFINITION: Plan, direct, and coordinate activities in such fields as electronic data processing, information systems, systems analysis, and computer programming. These persons spend the greatest portion of their time in managerial work for which a background required would be consistent with that described for computer professionals such as computer systems analysts, computer scientists, database administrators, computer programmers, and computer support specialists.

    TASKS:

    1. Evaluates data processing project proposals and assesses project feasibility.

    2. Prepares and reviews operational reports or project progress reports.

    3. Develops performance standards and evaluates work in light of established standards.

    4. Consults with users, management, vendors, and technicians to determine computing needs and system requirements.

    5. Analyzes workflow and assigns or schedules work to meet priorities and goals.

    6. Meets with department heads, managers, supervisors, vendors, and others to solicit cooperation and resolve problems.

    7. Approves, prepares, monitors, and adjusts operational budget.

    8. Develops and interprets organizational goals, policies, and procedures, and reviews project plans.

    9. Directs daily operations of department and coordinates project activities with other departments.

    10. Participates in staffing decisions.

    11. Directs training of subordinates.
