DEFINITION: Examine and test minerals and metal samples to determine their physical and chemical properties.
1. Examines and tests metal samples to determine their physical properties, using microscopes, electromagnetic irradiation machines, and manual measuring instruments.
2. Tests metal parts, using radiographic, penetrant, ultrasonic, and magnetic particle methods, to determine if parts meet nondestructive specifications.
3. Examines metal and mineral samples, using spectrograph, spectrometer, densitometer, and other measuring instruments, and records results.
