TITLE: Stenotype Operators
DEFINITION: Operate stenotype machine to take dictation, record proceedings, or provide captions.
1. Listens to and records proceedings, dialogue, or dictation of reports, correspondence, and other matter using stenotype machine.
2. Transcribes recorded material using word processor or typewriter, or dictates material into recording machine.
3. Directs speakers to clarify inaudible statements.
4. Devises stenographic equivalents of new words or terms and adds to stenographic glossary.
5. Reads portions of transcript aloud, as requested.
6. Reviews glossary items for words and terms likely to be used during proceedings or program.
