TITLE: Municipal Fire Fighting and Prevention Supervisors
DEFINITION: Supervise fire fighters who control and extinguish municipal fires, protect life and property, and conduct rescue efforts.
1. Coordinates and supervises fire fighting and rescue activities, and reports events to supervisor, using two- way radio.
2. Assesses nature and extent of fire, condition of building, danger to adjacent buildings, and water supply to determine crew or company requirements.
3. Evaluates efficiency and performance of employees, and recommends awards for service.
4. Directs investigation of cases of suspected arson, hazards, and false alarms.
5. Trains subordinates in use of equipment, methods of extinguishing fires, and rescue operations.
6. Directs building inspections to ensure compliance with fire and safety regulations.
7. Inspects fire stations, equipment, and records to ensure efficiency and enforcement of departmental regulations.
8. Keeps equipment and personnel records.
9. Confers with civic representatives, and plans talks and demonstrations of fire safety to direct fire prevention information program.
10. Oversees review of new building plans to ensure compliance with laws, ordinances, and administrative rules for public fire safety.
11. Orders and directs fire drills for occupants of buildings.
12. Writes and submits proposal for new equipment or modification of existing equipment.
13. Studies and interprets fire safety codes to establish procedures for issuing permits regulating storage or use of hazardous or flammable substances.
14. Compiles report of fire call, listing location, type, probable cause, estimated damage, and disposition.
