JUMPBASTING SEWING MACHINE
    JUMPBASTING SEWING MACHINE A basting machine that allows free movement of fabric over the work bed to produce a stitch of variable length and direction. There is no feed mechanism or presser foot. A plunger-like device (needle stripper) encloses the needle and holds the fabric down only long enough for the needle to penetrate and withdraw. Used for basting with a long, loose stitch over large areas to hold plies of fabric together, as in preliminary positioning of coat layers.
